If Ole' Fishnets got in a tune up before hand, does anyone here think he would stand a chance @ beating Sergio?

ODLH Martinez?!? - Mean Mister Mustard - 10-30-2011 11:22 PM

No. He'd get Pacquiao'd except it would happen against a bigger harder hitting guy.

Not a prayer in Hell.

Martinez it too much man for De La Hoya now! No smiles for DLH in this one!

If he were to have ANY chance, he would need more than one tuneup. Even at that, Martinez is an incredibly tall order. de la Hoya is basically worthless at 160. He lost both fights he had there, even though only one was an official loss. We all know he lost to Sturm.

So what's the option? 154? Martinez is probably better there.

We know Martinez isn't going to 147 and Oscar probably can't make welterweight anyway.

I think the bigger question is who the tuneup(s) would be against. Oscar's not going to be interested in a small stage, overmatched opponent at a small casino on Friday Night Fights. Is there someone at 147 or 154 that HBO would pay for that Oscar could reliably beat? Maybe a much anticipated rematch with Steve Forbes or something.

Hell, let him fight Mosley again at 147 but it HAS to be on regular ass HBO. No more PPV for Shane.

Maybe it's just me but there IS one fight, at 154, that I'd actually pay to see on pay-per-view. I honestly would.

de la Hoya-Vargas II.

We've heard rumblings of Vargas coming out of retirement in the last year and now this with de la Hoya. Vargas would muster everything he had left for another shot at Fishnets. Knowing that, Fishnets would have to bring back everything he has left. It's a real grudge match that was riveting the first time around and would garner some, hopefully positive, attention. No matter how you feel about de la Hoya, and he's definitely polarizing, the Vargas fight was a classic. It's one of the few de la Hoya fights that I routinely go into the DVD archive and watch. What a war. We could use some more wars.

Oscar would get beaten badly...he can't outbox Martinez and he can't slug with him.

I'm sure a few posters on here would love to see this fight. lol

Oscar would get killed on some Rocky 4 Apollo Creed type of shit.

Pretty pointless fight really.

Oscar would just get bashed the fuck up. Unless perhaps people wanted to see that happen.

The thing about Oscar is that, regardless of how often he lost, he did fight EVERYONE. He should obviously stay retired, but if he did come back I'd hope it would be to fight a guy like Martinez - that would be in keeping with his legacy and it would be nice to see Martinez get a huge paycheck.

I'd definitely buy it.

I think Oscar has trouble with Martinez even in his prime. Martinez is a fast fighter with quick hands. That gave Oscar problems in his career. Right now, it wouldn't even be a contest. Oscar is done as a fighter and that was apparent all throughout 2008. Even with a tune up, he wouldn't be able to get off shots or handle the speed of Martinez. Oscar was always my favorite fighter, and he fought everybody. He was a solid boxer and that Vargas fight is one of my favorites of all time.
