PICKLE...FLOYD WAS GOING TO KILL MANNY ANYWAY"

By Percy Crawford | November 17, 2011

"If that gives you problems, they shouldn't even think about fighting Floyd at all...Bob is caught in a pickle.
Bob has to make a realistic decision. Do we still try to maximize the earnings off of Manny, because he's
already been exposed to the point where, realistically to most people, the fight is already gone. Nobody
thinks that Manny has a chance against Floyd other than the PacManiacs, and that really don't mean
nothing. But to the true boxing fan, and there are even some Pacquiao fans that switched up and now all of a
sudden, 'Floyd would kill him.' But the reality is Floyd would have killed him anytime. You didn't have to see
Marquez do that to him. Floyd was going to kill Manny anyway. Marquez had already done it to him twice, but
it was a big deal this time because he went up in weight. I mean, Marquez drunk his own piss to fight Floyd and then Floyd beat the piss out of him. The guy Manny fought was 38 years old," stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather, who shared his thoughts on the oucome of Pacquiao vs. Marquez III, Pacquiao's performance and his chances against Floyd Mayweather, and much more. Check it out!

PC: Jeff, you got my man King Mo out there. How is training with him going?

JM: Training is going real well. I'm actually on my way to train him right now.

PC: What are some of the things you are working on with him?

JM: I mean, basically just trying to get him to shorten up his punches a little bit. I
definitely don't have to help him with his power. He punches so damn hard, it's
ridiculous; and then just trying to tighten up his defense a little bit.

PC: Is it different for you working with a mixed martial artist or is your job the
same because you're only teaching them boxing?

JM: Only a few little things are different because their stance is a lot more square
because they have to use their feet as well. And that's one thing with Mo because we
gotta compromise; I was trying to get him to pivot like you do in boxing and he said,
"No, I can't do that because I may get kicked or I would be out of position to kick
myself." On that, since I never done MMA, I gotta trust his judgment on that. Things that
you know like that, that I can't teach you as far as MMA goes, are the things he has to
stick with. So on that, we had no dispute. I'm not going to try and change anything that
works for him. He knows the things that I'm teaching him that are boxing related don't
mess with the things he does as far as MMA. They just work out for the both of us.

PC: I think that's why you can be successful training mixed martial artists
because you are willing to compromise some of your teachings as well as bend
a little bit to fit the rules of MMA.

JM: Yeah, definitely. To me, the sport is still growing. I can teach boxing all I want to,
but at the same time, there are things that boxers don't have to do, like I said earlier, as
far as the stance. And there are other things as well. He's kind of like educated me on
the sport and I'm working with another guy...Bito...Vito...something like that.

PC: Vitor Belfort!

JM: Okay, that might be him (laughing). I don't know. Anyway, I'm working with him too
and he is a southpaw. He has some extremely fast hands. He's got pretty good boxing
skills too because he's got good instincts. He gets away from punches good and slips
pretty good to be an MMA fighter. I was quite impressed when I worked with him
yesterday.

PC: Yeah, Vitor is a crisp striker and he's fighting an exceptional standup fighter
in Anthony Johnson in his next bout, so I could see why he came to you.

JM: Oh, okay. Yeah.

PC: We saw a video of Floyd Mayweather Sr. sparring. Are you still sparring
(laughing)?

JM: (Laughing) No, my days of sparring are over. I used to do the same thing. Don't get
me wrong, I still got a couple of young fighters that try to tempt me into coming back
and sparring them and all of that stuff, but I'm done with that. And I mean, the thing is,
Floyd should be done with it more than me because of his condition. And I know you
sometimes want to still prove that you can fight or whatever, but he still didn't prove
nothing because it ain't like it goes on your record. It wasn't for a belt or anything, so
the only thing you gain is bragging rights. So Floyd shouldn't even take that kind of risk.

PC: Yeah, even though he held his own, I didn't like seeing that because
anything could have happened.

JM: Oh no, and then the guy comes back and sucker punches him. What if that sucker
punch would have knocked him out, or anything can happen. I mean, this guy was
nothing but a fool. He is one of those people that run on the damn field in the middle of
the game or the type of guy like "The Fan Man"; just want a minute of fame.

PC: Of course that's all he wanted. He is the one who put the video out.

JM: Of course he put the video out. The video said he knocked out Floyd when everybody
can clearly see he got his ass whooped.

PC: You know I gotta ask you about the Marquez and Pacquiao fight. Were you
in attendance or did you watch at home, and what are your thoughts?

JM: I was supposed to go, but the person that I normally go with, he didn't go, so I
ended up at the last second just ordering it at home. I thought Marquez won. I think I'm
in the masses when I say I thought Marquez won. That seems to be the thought that
everybody has. Even Pacquiao himself didn't look to me as if he thought he won the
fight. He looked like he thought Marquez won too the way he looked right before the
decision was announced. He didn't look comfortable or confident or anything like that.
But then you look at Marquez and he looked like he thought he was dominant and he
looked like a winner.

PC: Freddie Roach saying that his counter-punching style gives Pacquiao
problems says a lot to me. Is that the only reason Marquez always gives
Pacquiao problems in your opinion?

JM: (Laughing) If that gives you problems, they shouldn't even think about fighting Floyd
at all. But with that being said, I think it's two guys that, no matter when they fight or
what weight class they fight at, their fights are always going to be close. It's one of those
decisions that every time a decision is made, it's going to be a close fight. Here it is,
these guys have fought 3 times. Some people think Marquez has one all three, there are
other people that think that they split one and then one is a draw, and then you have
people that think Pacquiao won all three. It's one of those situations where it doesn't
matter how many times they fight, it's going to be that type of fight where at the end of
the day, Marquez fans are going to be happy for Marquez and Pacquiao fans are going to
be happy for Pacquiao. But I think what happened this time around is, because Pacquiao
has moved up in weight and has fought much bigger fighters and younger fighters, they
thought that he was going to go out there and just blow Marquez away. I never thought
that at all. When you have two guys that have fought twice already, and one round
separates who won and who lost, it's a situation where every time they fight, it's going
to be the same way. I don't know why everybody was thinking that because Pacquiao did
this and Pacquiao did that that, he was going to blow Marquez out. I even mentioned
before the fight that no matter what Marquez do, he's not going to win.

PC: Yeah it's a situation where Marquez is probably not going to stop Pacquiao,
so we're going to get 12 rounds of boxing, and those guys fighting for 12
rounds will always look like it looked last Saturday night.

JM: Right! He can't stop him. And it's messed up because that's his only way of winning.
I mea, Floyd and Pacquiao was on the table. They not going to kill the biggest fight in
the history of the sport by decision. No, he was going to have to knock Pacquiao out. It's
just like when De La Hoya fought Felix Sturm, but they knew he was fighting Bernard
Hopkins next. With that being already in place and that fight already being made, Felix
Strum can't win. Plus, nobody knew who the hell he was any damn ways. The guy comes
over here and gets robbed. De La Hoya knows he didn't win and Bernard Hopkins knows
he didn't win, but nobody cared about that because that was a big fight out there. That
was a super-fight that was going to take place. And in most cases, the fight will always
end up by split decision or majority decision; something to keep that fight on the
backburner alive, but it's not going to be a loss, believe that.

PC: Well, Bob Arum has already shot down negotiations with Team Mayweather
to pursue a forth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.

JM: Well, you see, Bob is caught in a pickle. Bob has to make a realistic decision. Do we
still try to maximize the earnings off of Manny, because he's already been exposed to the
point where, realistically to most people, the fight is already gone. Nobody thinks that
Manny has a chance against Floyd other than the PacManiacs, and that really don't mean
nothing. But to the true boxing fan, and there are even some Pacquiao fans that
switched up and now all of a sudden, "Floyd would kill him." But the reality is Floyd
would have killed him anytime. You didn't have to see Marquez do that to him. Floyd was
going to kill Manny anyway. Marquez had already done it to him twice, but it was a big
deal this time because he went up in weight. I mean, Marquez drunk his own piss to fight
Floyd and then Floyd beat the piss out of him. The guy Manny fought was 38 years old.
PC: Before I let you go, what did you think of the Cotto/Margarito face off?
JM: I only caught a part of it and I just know Cotto kept saying that I'm not willing to
risk my life for this or that; I got kids and so forth. What Cotto did was just be real and
not go to the extreme of saying, "I will die in the ring." No, nobody wants to fucking die.
He just kept everything real and put it in a perspective where everybody that is realistic
about themselves and their own life, they can relate to what he is saying. You have some
people that will say, "I will die in that ring." No! What he did was just kept it real. "I got
a damn family to take care of. No, I'm not trying to die in no fucking ring." The thing is
this, the only thing he is saying is this, "I'm willing to put everything on the line or I
wouldn't be a fighter, but no, I'm not willing to die in the ring." He has people that
depend on him. He has a family at home that he takes care of. To be honest, if I was
Cotto, I wouldn't give him a shot. If he was my fighter, no, I wouldn't have put him in
there against Margarito again. It's one of them things where if you feel it in your heart,
even if he never cheated against you, the thing is it's already in your head. There is
something suspect about what happened, and then for him to get caught the next time
out. If you are a kid and you wake up every morning before your parents, you gonna do
whatever you wanna do until you get caught. Once you get caught, that's when the
game change, and I think that's what happened with Margarito. Once he got caught,
then the game changed. Now the spotlight is on you and you can't do no wrong; and
when you can't do no wrong, then the truth comes out and now you see how the real
Margarito fights and he ain't nothing special at all.

i wonder how the hell this cat is related to Roger and Floyd Sr. i do agree with him about Pac though, i've never doubted that Mayweather would beat him and Arum has been keeping the money flowing with no intentions of making the fight until he's ready.

Pac is still in a great position. There are a lot of people who want to see him fight JMM for the 4th time. Seriously who here thinks that fight is a waste of time?

I think it is. As soon as the fight is signed, may as well update Pacquiao's record to 55 career wins and just put "TBA" where the method is supposed to be.
I think the only way Marquez can maybe get a win, is if by some chance, he killed Pacquiao in the ring. I don't wish death up clock face, but lets just say that I really, really want Marquez to win...

Mayweather's people now that they know he'll beat the breaks off of Pac. he would probably even say no Mayweather testing if it happens in May. but really Pac will make money against anyone, especially JMM. Pac's team have been making excuses and he could easily pull "i was overtrained.. i really knock him out this time" on the casual fans. they believe everything on 24/7 anyway.
