I need to vent....
The Friday morning after Thanksgiving I had to rush my dog into emergency surgery to remove an obstruction in his lower intestine. I was given two options...start an IV and wait 24hrs to see if it would pass, or go in and remove it. I chose to remove it. The Dr found a squeaker bulb from one of his toys wrapped with some other misc stuff. It was a significant enough blockage that part of his intestine was dying, and needed to be removed.
The Dr said that if we had waited, then his condition would've deteriorated to the point that 24-48hrs from then it would've been life threatening. She told me that she was surprised at how bad it was because he wasn't exhibiting any of the behavior that you expect to see. Dogs with that kind of obstruction typically are lethargic, and visibly miserable. She said that up until they gave him the anesthesia, Ed never stopped wagging his tail. I take him tomorrow to get his staples out, and am extremely relieved that this whole episode is almost over... "And you got your own steez about you that I appreciate bro. I see it." - Snoop |
