RE: I need to vent....
Just felt like a regular Friday today at work, about midday I was around on the office side of the building and I see the receptionist come through hysterical and screaming to call 000 (911 for Americans). I rush out to the front, and see a woman has been run over by a truck that was backing into the building. I have never been confronted by anything like that before, and I saw her leg and it was the worst thing I had seen in person. I can still see the image in my head.
Ambulance and cops were there for hours. I felt so bad for the woman, one of the owners who was beside himself as I believe it was a friend of his and she had just finished an interview and was starting work on Monday, and he was there in a bad state, blaming himself as he was on the phone to her when she got struck. And I feel really bad for the truck driver as well as I see him everyday, and I don't think there was much he could have done as the truck has reversing beepers that are loud enough, and if he can't see anything in his side mirrors he can't see anything else. I will wait and see for more reports to come through, but from the looks of it, she was on the phone, oblivious to her surrounds and didn't notice a truck backing into the building. That vision was horrible to see, and the company has offered counseling for people who need it. I don't know how paramedics deal with this on a day to day basis, they would see much worse than this on a regular basis than most people wouldn't see in their life time. They do a great job. |
