This prospect will be the goods!
One of the things I most enjoy about boxing is picking young fighters who I see something in and believe will go onto great things in the future.? Well, seeing as David Lemieux did rather well before his unfortunate defeat to Rubio, I've been doing some scouting around and I came up with a couple of young fighters who I aim to follow on their imminent rise to the top of the sport.
I'll start of with Fidel Maldonado Jr.? Obviously being under the Golden Boy banner he is probably known by most of you already but if you haven't heard of him or seen him box, keep an eye out for him as he definitely looks like a fighter blessed with excellent ability.? His amateur record was very good reading an extremely impressive 118-12 According to Wiki.? I've also learned that he scored a remarkable 45 knockouts as an amateur which is quite some feat baring in mind he is only just 20 years old now.? As a pro he has racked up 11 straight wins, 10 by knockout but admittedly his opposition hasn't been up to much just yet.? Maldonado is scheduled to meet Eric Cruz in 4 days time and although Cruz has lost 7 times he has scored 12 victories and won each of those 12 by knock out.? It should be a good test for Felix. I'll reveal my next choice of future star next week but in the meantime perhaps everybody could contribute with somebody and we can all track their progress as they either fulfill our bold claims about them or fall off dramatically without accomplishing? anything of significance. |

Welcome Sentral!
After his performance this weekend, I have to go with DeMarco. Kid throws punches like he is snapping a whip, has a decent chin, heart, length, toughness . . . he has that ability to slice people up like a NBA center with sharp elbows. |

Beardo thanks.
I am looking for us to pick someone for the future. A young fighter who you see something in who might eventually reach the top level and may even become a ppv star. If you'd said De Marco after his 12th fight.. . |

I'll throw into the mix American super middleweight Shawn Estrada. Was tipped off about him by aq mate so looked him up a couple of years back and figured he might have something about him even though he's what, 26 now. Looks a good fighter from what I have seen but seems to be moving along very slowly.
Fuckin' mad impressive 110-7 in the ams, plus he represented the US in the Olympics so he'll be known by the Americans (pretty much most of you). He won the 2000 Junior Olympic Championship at age 14 and the 2001 Pan-American Games Gold Medal, beating the top Cuban and Puerto Rican boxers in his weight class and age bracket. He did lose to Shawn Porter as an am in 2007 but beat Danny Jacobs twice and I reckon if he ups his activity levels he could be a decent shout for some kinda success. |

I saw one fight of this Australian based fighter (from Nigeria), his name is Wale Omotoso. He stopped Augustus a couple of years ago when he was coming up, and I liked what I saw from him in that fight. Still raw, but he used his straight punching well.
He is 19-0 (17 KO's). Also from what I hear, he has left his trainer and is now working with Roach. I really haven't seen much of him, but what I did see, I kinda liked. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_i...&cat=boxer |

Caleb Truax. He's now 18-0 and has beaten all the trail-horses thrown in front of him. He dominated Echols (which every prospect should), beat a respectable Andy Kolle, and has been moved along appropriately. I used to train with him, and even back in 2006 I thought he could be the goods. He was so smooth in sparring, and he has some pop. He's a damn good fighter, and I look for him to make some serious noise in the next couple years. I'd love to see him fight Brian Vera next.

SENTRAL Wrote:Beardo thanks.DeMarco is only 25 years old. Sure he is 26-2 but I think he is one of those who comes on late. He lost a decision early in his career and then to the "legendary" Valero in a war. But, I get your point. Cesar Seda Jr could be another you classify as not a "prospect" but I think this kid is pretty special. 21(15)-1, his only loss a homer decision in Argentina for Narvaez. This kid oozes skill and natural talent. Brad Solomon is a sleeper prospect at 17-0 who has been defeating more vaunted prospects fairly regularly. Frankie Gomez 11(8)-0 and Jose Benavidez 13(12)-0 are more of what you are looking for I suppose. They are both 19 with similar amateur careers, excellent skills and natural ability. There is a decent possibility that they could develop into the future at 140 and welter. Gomez is more of a scrapper with good quickness while Benavidez is blessed with height (5'11"), length (73"), quickness and good pop. They are both being brought along deliberately. There is footage out there of them in the ring v each other as amateurs. Benavidez has footage of his sparring with Manny some time ago. He has also sparred with a number of other pros including Ramming Speed. Unfortunately, we may never see them meet as pros since Benavidez is TR and Gomez is GB. My gut says that Benavidez is future top 10 P4P material but the other night Steward and Lampley felt Linares was the second coming of SRR. What a difference 10 rounds can make. |

I saw this kid Rocco Santomauro on an undercard of the Holyfield/Botha fight. I liked the kid. 23 year old featherweight who's 7-0 right now.
He's raw, and all his fights have been either unanimous or majority decisions (4 rounders). When I saw him I was impressed because he seemed to be a brawler type guy, although a bit wild, but to be fair it was only his fourth fight. He's definitely going to have to settle down a bit and get disciplined as far as how he goes about his fights, but he's young and I'm sure he'll get that part down. Very in shape dude, so he's obviously got a good conditioning guy in Robert ?Bobby? Chiodini |

Maxy, I know Estrada, hopefully he starts to move things along a little bit..? Looks good from the small amount I've seen of him.? Doesn't currently have a fight scheduled.
Never heard of or seen Wale Omotoso, Fitz.? A quick glimpse at his record suggests he's moving along rather slowly having been a professional for 5 years now.? Only one fight this year.? Perhaps his management team are letting him down.? Impressive record and one to keep an eye on. Caleb Truax.? I've never seen him box but his record does look good.? Will mark him down as another to keep an eye.? Cool that you trained with him Kyle and that must be an added incentive to hope he does well. Brad Solomon, yea SmartyBeardo I saw him box Demetrius Hopkins and he did a fine job although Hopkins spoiled things a little with his holding at times. ? Doesn't appear much of a puncher but he's fast, good jab and technically sound.? Due to the hype I've watched Jose Benavidez a few times and if he can live up to what they say about him we might have here the best of the bunch so far.? Very exciting prospect.. Byrdman, I've yet to see Rocco Santomauro.? 7 and 0 with 0 KO's tells me he isn't much of a puncher but he seems to have won all his fights very clearly on the scorecards.? Will look out for him. So far a good few names and yet not one single heavyweight.? |

I still think Broner has whats needed to be the goods but he's right on the verge of making the step over into championship level.
Gary Russell has a lot of flash to him, not sure if he has substance yet. Benavidez has a lot of tools but the last fight I saw I wasn't overly impressed with him. Estrada has had a lot of injuries. Deontay Wilder is still America's best hope for a legitimate Heavyweight Champion(when the Klits are gone will it even matter anymore tho?) I was impressed by Ajose Olusegun in his win over Chebah, I'd like to see him get a shot at some of the top 140lbers Ismayl Sillakh is the best guy on the verge of crossing over imo(maybe except devastating power), he has all of the tools to be regarded as very very good(its always too premature to use great) Luis Cruz has some power but I think he's just waiting to get exposed, he has way too much weight on his front foot and his punches are wide. He reminds me of a less polished Juanma. I haven't been following the sport as diligently as in the past, this year has been pretty bad with 4 PPV flops. Lets hope the tail-end of the year picks up a bit. I have always been optimistic about the sport but there is less and less to get excited about every year |
