Yeah, I thought it'd be a huge ppv til everyone told me they'd be streaming it. I thought it'd hurt the ppv and really limit buys.

RE: Potential Mayweather-McGregor numbers.
At one point I felt it could get close to 6.8 (but also considered piracy and what not and dropped it down to 5.1 million.

But..the timing, the hype but mostly timing for this was there to break numbers!

Talking numbers..anyone see how pornhub logins had dropped 12% worldwide during the fight? lol

One thing is for sure, after this number, you can expect to see more crossover fights. Promotors will be pushing for it and so will fighters, cashing in on the novelty while it lasts. But UFC fighters would have to do it after their contracts finish.

RE: Potential Mayweather-McGregor numbers.
Now that this has happened I'd be surprised if we don't see another cross over fight in the near future. We could see McGregor get another big fight with Pacquiao, Canelo/GGG or even Cotto.

The money is in boxing so UFC fighters will want that big payday. Maybe washed up boxers with a name will cross over to the UFC. I could see some like Roy Jones Jr going for something like this or named boxers who can no longer land big fights. This opens up alot of doors in the fight game but I'd rather they keep both sports separate

What would have done bigger numbers? This fight over the weekend or if it was Mayweather fighting McGregor in the octagon instead?

Not for anything, but doesn't this seem quick to tabulate these numbers?

RE: Potential Mayweather-McGregor numbers.
I doubt McGregor would fight Cotto, he isn't a big enough name anymore. It would have to be Pac, or the winner of GGG vs Canelo. I hope Pac just retires to be honest, he is punching above his weight already and he is past it. But Pac is the least risk for the most reward for McGregor, but Arum wouldn't allow it. He would rather see the torch passed to one of his own stable, Horn in the rematch and the winner vs Crawford.

If we see another cross over, I think it will be Nate Diaz. No idea who he fights though, 168 has no big names, he could cut to 160 for the winner of GGG vs Canelo though. If McGregor comes back I expect to see him take a fight he could win first, before he has a go at GGG or Canelo, maybe the washed up Paulie (somebody smaller that won't be able to hurt him).

I thought the same JD, it was way too quick to announce numbers, particularly for a fight of this magnitutde, and the source seems to be Dana White (who probably leads the world in lies told), has anybody seen Showtime confirm this?

I don't see it happening again. This was a one-time thing, and I don't see anyone else doing these numbers.

RE: Potential Mayweather-McGregor numbers.
The numbers won't be happening again anytime soon. But it shows what bringing two sets of fans from different sports together can do. That is BIG numbers. And big numbers mean big paydays for everybody involved.

GGG vs Canelo is big. McGregor vs Diaz is big. But let's do GGG vs McGregor, it brings two sets of fans to the table, and is sure to well and truly do bigger numbers than anything these guys can do by facing somebody in their own sport.

It is just like Brock Lesnar going into MMA, he bought his wresting fans with him. While wrestling is more niche than boxing or MMA, he was still one of the biggest combat sports stars in the world purely based on bringing a cross section of fans together.

Another example, take AJ, he will do big numbers in boxing. But can you imagine him fighting Jon Jones? Once again, it would be a blockbuster.

It is simple math. 1+1=2. It is always going to be bigger than 0.5+0.5. And it won't take long for promotors to catch on if that 6.5mil number is right.

RE: Potential Mayweather-McGregor numbers.
I don't think people are interested in seeing McGregor in a boxing ring again. Part of what made this match intriguing is because McGregor was an X factor. People weren't sure what he could do in a boxing ring. Now that we know, the mystique isn't there anymore. McGregor won't be able to sell another boxing match, imo.
