Why not 154? Neither guy was a real middleweight.

At 154, Gay La Hoya wins a comfortable UD.

Yeah, so what about Middleweight though?

De La Hoya beats Cotto in every division they competed in, except for Middleweight.

RE: Oscar De La Hoya-Miguel Cotto @ Middleweight.
Seeing as the title thread was who would win at 160, I have to take that at face value and only use their performances within the 160lb division as evidence, regardless of whether they were within it by only a lb or not.

And with that evidence I have to go with Cotto, since he looked sharper, fresher and more in form at 160 than DLH.

However, if you're taking into the account they were pretty much the same size as each other and conceivably have fought each other at 155 at any point in their careers after they moved up from welter, then De La Hoya in his prime was a better all round fighter than Cotto and would win. He'd bust Cotto up early, lose a few of the final rounds but wind up a UD winner.

You got the right idea black! Cotto at Middleweight was much more sharper and futher removed from his best than De La Hoya was fighting at Middle.

Oddly..the only time they could have realistically fought was when De La Hoya fought Forbes. Had DLH (well past his prime)fought Cotto then, he would have been stopped late..against Margs at the time too!

If they fought at Middle they’d both weigh whatever they wanted, which means a bit above 54.

I’ll take DLH since Cotto never actually fought at the 160 limit.

You don't have to weigh the 160 limit to be a Middleweight, nor do you have to weigh the Middleweight limit to win fights against soft, plodding fighters. Cotto beats DLH at Middleweight!

RE: Oscar De La Hoya-Miguel Cotto @ Middleweight.
Cotto beat a one legged Martinez and not much else at 155. Stylistically DLH was better and physically he's faster and more agile. Only way Cotto beats him is if Arum bought some Canelo judges for him and he could run to every corner of the ring for 12 rounds and get himself a 118-110 card.

Old DLH was good enough for a competitive fight with Floyd. Old Cotto won 3 rounds and looked like a heavybag at times. And DLH was destroying his body with coke, alcohol and strapons at the time.

RE: Oscar De La Hoya-Miguel Cotto @ Middleweight.
Well Cotto has wins at Middleweight..you could argue DLH had none. Sure Martinez may have been one legged..but Geale wasn't. Even Cotto's only MW loss to Canelo, he managed to look good & be competitive. DLH never looked good at Middleweight!
In regards to both DLH & Cotto's fight with Mayweather at 154 I feel Cotto did better against a better version of Mayweather who had already settled at that weight & put up one of the best performances of his career. Some may have had the DLH fight close on the cards but Cotto gave Mayweather such a tougher fight. Cotto that fought Mayweather would also probably beat the DLH that fought Mayweather..cause that version was junk. Now the DLH that fought Vargas beats any version of Cotto at 154!
