RE: HBO drops Boxing
I'd really like for a dude to get into the sport that just wants to win and has a BHops level dedication. But with how boxing is that dude would be avoided and end up never getting big fights, just working way too hard for lower level fights. Boxing is being killed from the top down.

RE: HBO drops Boxing
Black, those fights may of sucked. But at least they happened in that time frame they were expected to happen. Shit happens.
May and Pac happened about 6 years after it should have. |

RE: HBO drops Boxing
The problem with boxing is, if you are a talented young man who wants to reach the top, there is no defined path there. It requires other bullshit like marketability.
If you are a football team in Europe and you want to prove yourself the best the route is simple. You must qualify via domestic league for the European cup. You must then win it. Likewise in almost all other sports the route to the top is defined. Boxing doesnt have that. |

RE: HBO drops Boxing
Boxing can have a clear path. I just think a marketable dude with power would struggle with getting the fights they want. Kind of like Golovkin at 160, dudes created the 155 division.

RE: HBO drops Boxing
There's no clear path in boxing, you could be very talented and undefeated and be stuck fighting in high schools and tiny casinos your whole life.

RE: HBO drops Boxing
That happens in other sports too. But in other sports the two best teams always play, in boxing sometimes one guy is a little too good. Then you see all the tricks of the business side of boxing.

RE: HBO drops Boxing
I cant think of another sport where being the best will not neccessarily get you to the top.

Pretty much every sport in existence. They all have their problems...usually associated with money, technology or politics.

RE: HBO drops Boxing
Lloyd is correct. Boxing is confusing and annoying to discuss to casual fans. I stopped and just started giving simple answers, I hate discussing the sport.
Sports should be linear and clear, winning a championship/title/cup/ring/medal or whatever it is should be clear, easy to discuss and explain. |

RE: HBO drops Boxing
But black, if you are in a league or proper ranking system, the only barrier to success is your own ability. Thats not the case in boxing.
The governing bodies are ludicrous in the way the dole out rankings and Champions dont have to fight who they mandate anyway. Its bullshit. In boxing you fight your way up high enpugh to try and catch the eye on tv and once you have done that your sole aim is to cherry pick high purse exhibitions. Not saying many of these fights aremt fantastic, they are but its not a structured sport. |
