Prayers for Adonis Stevenson

Did not see anything on this site about it. I think the big event of Fury/Wilder has overshadowed this tragic situation. As most know he was KOd in the 11th....but is now in a coma after having brain surgery.

I don't know much about the medical side of all of that...but they say he needs a respirator...which any time that shit ever happened in my family, they always died later.

So...love or hate the guy...he needs your thoughts and prayers, no doubt his boxing career is over...but let's hope he can still function and enjoy his life after boxing. Dude's only 41.

I've hated Adonis since he left HBO to avoid fighting Kovalev.

I watched his fight last week and jumped out of my chair I was so excited to see him get ko'd.

And then finding out he was in critical condition really hit me hard.

My original post here was something to the affect that I was a real admirer of anyone who was man enough to even think of trying to make a living with his fists - something that genuinely does impress me endlessly.

But I had no idea about the pimping and beating of teenage girls.

I've now read enough about it (and his mentoring of at risk youth after he got out of jail) to have done a 180.

I don't have any clue how someone who beats underage girls (or any women at all) and forces them to have sex with old men is ever allowed back onto the streets to begin with. Because there is no chance whatsoever that they will ever really change. That kind of behavior doesn't just happen - it's who that person is.

It really is jarring to see how lives get changed with one punch (or an accumulation over years) and there is something morally questionable about supporting such a dangerous sport.

That said, my original post here expressed reluctant admiration for the guy, but now after reading about the other stuff I am retracting that. I'm sure his family is suffering and every boxing fan should be staggered, but I don't feel any sympathy or respect for Adonis whatsoever.

Good work BGv4.0! It's pretty big, serious news..& mentioned before that I was unaware that he was the oldest current & longest reigning title holder in boxing before he was stopped in the 11th.

Update on Adonis Stevenson’s health status

At the request of family, the CHU de Québec-Université Laval (CHU) wishes to review the state of health of Mr. Adonis Stevenson. After a boxing event on Saturday night, Mr. Stevenson was admitted to Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus following an altered level of consciousness from a traumatic brain injury.

“Mr. Stevenson underwent surgery on the night of Saturday to Sunday and has since been admitted to the intensive care unit. He suffers from severe traumatic brain injury. His situation is still stable under the circumstances, but critical,” said Dr. Alexis Turgeon, specialist physician in intensive care medicine at Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval.

“His condition requires mechanical respiratory assistance, deep sedation and specialized neurological monitoring. It is too early to comment on Mr. Stevenson’s long-term prognosis,” said Dr. Turgeon.

“I urge the media to be very cautious about distributing medical information that does not come from an official medical source,” added Dr. Turgeon.

Mr. Stevenson’s family thanks supporters for their many messages of empathy and support over the past few days. They want to be at the bedside of Mr. Stevenson and ask everyone to respect their privacy.

As agreed with Mr. Stevenson’s family, please note that no further comments will be made.

I think he's a total dick, but Im glad he is OK. These guys put themselves on the line for oour entertainment. Sure they are compensated - some handsomely, others not even close. Still, gotta respect that they put themselves in danger. I don't like Adonis Stevenson. Im glad he's not dead. I don't like to see deaths in the sport.

He did his time for his crimes, and he changed himself afterwards. I can forgive a man who has truly repented. If people don't feel justice was served, then hopefully they do now with this life-changing KO loss. I wish nothing bad on the man, and I hope he recovers.

I'd love to know if Adonis ever tried to make amends to the girls he beat regularly and pulled a knife on and forced into prostitution. Those are the kinds of things that change your life forever.

One of the girls estimated that he took $40K of her money. It would be nice to know that once Adonis made his millions that he tried to make things right with them.
