Mayweather fights on May 5th

Mayweather vs Cotto/Alvarez would be OK except for one thing....it would fuck up a Cotto-Alvarez unification, which is one the big must sees on my hit list at the moment.


I'd rather see Mayweather just defending his welter belt. If there's no-one available, fine. Just fight a regular defence and get the next one set up. I hate it when fighters only fight 'superfights', which usually turn out to be disappointments. A lot of the great fights come about when a guy you don't expect to fight well grows balls and shocks a guy expecting an easy fight.

I'd rather Floyd fight four times a year, two regular defences, two big fights than just sit about doing nothing or messing other divisions about.


I know a lot would like to see Floyd in with Cotto or Alvarez or Martinez...me, I like fighters to stay in their own divisions and stay active. The best fights make themselves that way.

Trouble is the boxers themselves earn so much they only need to fight every six or twelve months, and the fans therefore demand a superfight every time out, which means the boxer has to absolutely maximise his earning potential.

Man, I wish I was around in the 50's, so I could get to see my favourite fighters in there every other month or so.
