Mayweather fights on May 5th

One of my issues with Floyd is that whether or not you think he'd win against the likes of Margarito, Cotto, etc the fact is he to this point has never faced them.

And as a result at the welterweight division he has not faced the best of his time. I think that too often people get caught up in the "Floyd would outclass ....." and use that to dismiss the necessity of facing them.

I also think Floyd uses that mentality too. "Why should I fight Margarito or Cotto? They can't beat me, I'll go fight this guy for more money."

And that's a fine financial decision. Not a good legacy decision. He seems to go back and forth over what his legacy means, whether it means nothing ("Legacy don't put food on my kid's tables") or he talks about how he's not getting the respect he deserves for what he's accomplished.

You can't have it both ways. Often the most financially lucrative and the most legacy defining paths are not one and the same.

So whether or not he would have blown out Cotto/Margarito/Cintron/Mosley/Williams, isn't the point necessarily. It's the fact that when it is all said and done, as of this moment, he faced one of those guys, and that was years later after he got older and slower and couldn't pull the trigger.

He chose money over legacy. Which is fine if money is what matters most. But you can't pick door number one and then bitch that you can't have what was behind door number two as well and that people are haters for not letting you have it.
