Reality show star says her involvement in boxing is not just a publicity stunt

Due to overwhelming public demand, Boxingtalk is publishing the full transcript of Rob Soucy's boxing-related chat with television's reigning and defending undisputed reality show champion, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. Here it is, in all its glory...

Boxingtalk: What is your favorite boxing movie?

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi": I definitely love the ?Million Dollar Baby? because it?s actually a female boxer. I thought that it was really cute.


BT: Did you watch the Rocky movies with your dad growing up?

N"S"P: I did, yeah. The Rocky movies were also great

BT: Were you a fan of the sport or have any interest in it at all before Team Snooki Boxing was formed?

NP: I had seen a few UFC fights and a few boxing events but I wasn?t really crazy into the sport until my dad actually got involved with it and that?s when I decided to hop on board.


BT: I assume that it was your dad that came up with the idea to form Team Snooki Boxing, right? If so what were your immediate thoughts?

NP: Right. Well anything my dad wants to do I support 100% because he is my father. Usually when my name is around with a certain subject everyone always looks at it like, Oh My God what is she doing now? I just want to be there for my dad and hang out with him because I?m so busy with traveling and doing stuff for the [reality] show. Any chance for me to hang out with my father and spend quality time with him is definitely a plus.


BT: How did you personal become associated with Mike Pascale and Brian Burke of Final Round Promotions?

NP: Well, my dad actually introduced me to everybody that was already on board with ?Team Snooki Boxing.? So it was my dad who pretty much introduced me to everything that is going on.

BT: Other than Final Round's January 27th event in Atlantic City, where Patrick Hyland fought, have you ever been to a boxing event live?

NP: No I hadn?t, that was my first time at a boxing event and it was pretty crazy. I had been to a couple UFC fights but the boxing was more intense because the boxers were literally punching the crap out of each other.

BT: What did you enjoy seeing more, boxing or the UFC?

NP: I liked both events but enjoyed the boxing more just because it is ?Team Snooki? which is pretty much me and my father?s team, so of course I enjoyed it more.

BT: Tell me about the Atlantic City event, did you sit ringside and actually watch the fights?

NP: Yes, I sat ringside and I was cheering on Patrick [Hyland]. I went inside the ring and then sat with my dad to watch the fight.

BT: Have you watched much boxing on television?

NP: No not really. Like I said my dad pretty much got me into the sport.

BT: Now, you are an extremely popular woman, especially amongst the younger age demographic, let?s say between age 20-40. Boxing, on the other hand, is struggling to appeal to that same age group and MMA is becoming more and more popular. Do you feel like, because of your popularity, you can help attract that younger age demographic to boxing now that you are involved?

NP: Yeah my fans range from literally like babies to 80 year old women and older men. So, you know, anyway to help the sport become popular again and have everyone be intrigued by it again, I?m 100% down to help with that.

BT: Do you think your fans from a completely different genre may become interested in boxing because they are interested in you?

NP: Yeah anything that I?m involved in my fans will also look into it and they also become interested. So I definitely think I can help the sport out with the younger age demographic.

BT: Does that mean all 5 million of your twitter followers will now become boxing fans?

NP: (laughs) Probably!


BT: You were athletic growing up as a competitive gymnast and cheerleader, so how does that help you relate to the boxers from an athletic/competition standpoint?

NP: I can relate just because of the determination that you put into the sport and pretty much dedicating you life just to be 100% at that sport. That?s exactly what I did in gymnastics, as I pretty much went to the gymnastics gym every single day. I competed once a month in different states. The same with cheerleading in high school. So just the dedication that I put in definitely helps me relate to boxing.


BT: By the way, those back handsprings and the round-off that you broke out at Wrestlemania, where did they come from?

NP: My round-off and back handspring are probably the simplest things that I can do, and I got that from the eight years of gymnastics.

BT: You are fairly athletic aren?t you?

NP: I?ve been doing sports pretty much my whole life. I am very flexible and can do any flip you want, so of course.

BT: Have you been in the gym at all, not to work out but to watch fighters train?

NP: Yes I watched Patrick Hyland train a couple of times. He is just insane in the ring and he?s so fast. I mean he is just so crazy with it and I definitely admire him because he is so dedicated to the sport.

BT: You are venturing into the promotional side of boxing pretty much blindly, so do you have a genuine interest in learning as much as you can about the sport?

NP: Yeah, anything that I do so I just don?t put my name on it and say ok here we go. I?m like 100% into everything I do so if I wasn?t genuine about boxing I wouldn?t be doing anything with it, so of course.

BT: From a public relations standpoint, unlike any other sport, boxing is internet driven. Fans, fighters, and promoters all over the world are going to read your words, so help me understand, so I can help them understand, why your involvement as a boxing promoter is more than just a publicity stunt?

NP: Well it?s definitely not a publicity stunt because first of all I am not like that. Everything that happens in my life it?s never just for publicity. It?s always because it?s my real life and that?s what?s going on. I?m definitely not a fame whore, I wouldn?t say that I am at all. This is not a publicity stunt whatsoever. my dad started ?Team Snooki Boxing? and he obviously wanted me on board and of course I?ll help my dad out no matter what. And also, I?m just learning more and more about the sport. As a fighter you have to be very dedicated and put your heart into it 100%, blood, sweat, and tears. I definitely respect that. I can also relate to that because of my gymnastics and cheerleading background. So this is definitely not a joke and people shouldn?t take it as a joke because Patrick Hyland will be a world champ some day.

BT: Ok last couple of questions, first of all, who would win a Team Snooki promoted boxing match between The Situation and Pauly D?

NP: Well obviously Pauly because I don?t get along with Mike.

BT: Who would win a boxing match between Team Meatball??

NP: Um, I don?t know. Obviously I would say myself but I think that would be a tough match!
