Morales is one of those guys that I think greatly benefits from a rest after a really tough fight. By a rest I don't necessarily mean not fight at all, but just not fight another life and death battle any time soon.

After the first Barrera fight, which I believe took a TON out of Morales I remember seeing him fight way too close for comfort fights with Espadas and Chi and thought to myself that he was certainly on the downside of his career. Then after losing to Barrera I thought he made some smart career extending choices with his next string of fights. Taking on the smaller Ayala moving up, rematching Espadas after he had lost a few times and lost a step to get a defining win over him, etc - shit like that.

Then we had the final Barrera fight and immediately Morales went in there with Pac and in winning that fight I felt Morales left it all in the ring. If there were ever a fight Morales needed a rest after it was Pacquiao I. Instead he fought a horrible stylistic match up for him in Raheem and got back in there with Pac. I think we all thought Morales was done (and he was) when he retired after going 0-4 or 0-5 I forget following the Pac losses and Diaz.

The rest he gave himself taking nearly 3 years off after his retirement was exactly what he needed, because he's made a great account of himself since returning. I do think after the Maidana and Garcia fights that he should give himself 2 easy fights or so before making a final run at a top opponent, but that's just my opinion. If he were to get in there with Marquez now for example, I'd have to go with Marquez over him convincingly.

Anyway he's a great fighter, always been one of my favs, and I'll tune in to see him fight even if he's 50 and still getting it on.
