Things not thread worthy
My thoughts on Hatton are short and simple. Was he, to some degree, overhyped? Yes. Especially after getting the win over a faded Tszyu then rolling off a few title defenses to set up the Mayweather fight. People were putting him in places historically that he didn't really belong, falling into the trap of excitement over a big win that allowed him to emerge onto the international scene. It happens.
But, what I can absolutely say about Hatton is that he's a guy who got every last bit out of his talent and then some. He made the most of everything he was given and that's to be commended. After seeing God knows how many "What might have been?" guys over the years, to see guys like Hatton, and Micky Ward, and so on, who left it all in the ring, used everything they had, and carried themselves with pride as competitors is far more rare than it should be. Kudos to Hatton on what turned out to be a fine and successful career, and here's hoping that he finds the peace and stability that has eluded him outside the ring in recent years. |
