No it isn't. Accepted and exception are not synonyms. Instead of providing a link to some dude's opinion, why don't you post a link to a dictionary. Like this:

The rules regarding the use of comparatives and superlatives couldn't be clearer. The fact that "more clear" is an accepted form does nothing to answer my question, namely why you feel the need to use "more" with a one syllable adjective. If you're going to break a rule, you should at least have a reason for it.

I did. An edited-in link to a guy's opinion on comparatives has very little value to me. But I can't blame you, sometimes Google just isn't that helpful.

Telling someone not to be a dick is not quite the same as calling someone a dick. This is hauntingly reminiscent of the Hashim Rahman / Lennox Lewis fiasco, where Rahman told Lennox to stop acting gay. Lennox, of course, being the world's worst trash talker responds with "Why are you calling me gay, I'm not gay. I'm a 100% ladies man! Ask your mom, ask your sister."

Rahman, of course, appropriately broke it down as such: "Man, I didn't say you were gay. I said you were acting gay!"

Same thing here, man. I said don't be a dick. If someone told you, "don't be late!" would you respond "I'm not late, you're late asshole!" No you wouldn't... would you?

(1) Fly off the handle when someone asks you a grammar question.

(2) Feel the need to, unasked, launch into a tedious summary of your academic history in an attempt to validate your self-proclaimed confidence.

(3) List over-consumption of cough syrup as a valid excuse for typos and queer word choice, while automatically equating typos stemming from notoriously faulty auto-correct functions on cell-phones to stupidity.


Well, that doesn't sound like confidence to me. That sounds like insecurity. Confidence would've been to answer my question in a straight forward manner, ala "Though the rules for one syllable adjectives as comparatives is clear, I choose to use "more" instead of "er" because I think it sounds better."
