RE: Things not thread worthy
Mosley and Donaire are great examples of modern day fighters that could have been ATGs in a lower division had they stayed put. Imagine Mosley at 135-140 for the majority of his career with maybe 2-3 fights at 147 to close it out?
This is why it irritates me when people say things like "Golovkin should move up to 168" - NO, he shouldn't. I'd rather see another guy with a Hopkins-type long ass reign than a guy bump up then up again and 3 years from now scoops up 2-3 losses at 175 when he could very well still be building a legacy at 160 where he belongs. The balance needs to be found between making money and making a legacy. A lot of the time these guys bump up for the money. Sure Mosley made a ton more money by getting those fights in divisions higher than he should have fought at, Donaire did too but at the expense of a greater legacy. You CAN have both, the money and the legacy - look no further than Hopkins. |
