RE: Things not thread worthy
While overturning a decision may be a bit extreme and could open up a can of worms for the same thing to happen again and again in the future, I think a fair call would be to change the result to a "no contest" and order an immediate rematch.
Yes judging is simply an opinion... but the opinion of 3 individuals (really 2 in the case of a SD) shouldn't matter if literally the rest of the world disagrees and sees the fight as a wide win for the official loser. Perhaps press row scores could be utilized or some other means. I'm not talking about a fight where the judges have it 115-113 for one guy and the rest of the world (press row, fans, etc) has it 115-113 for the other guy... that's different. But if 40 people from press row scored the fight either 120-108 or 119-109 for one fighter and he doesn't get the decision because 2-3 dudes scored it the other way, I think that's a problem. Obviously some sort of policy would have to be put into writing so that there's a measurable system so it would only apply to fights with a 10 point or wider discrepancy (for example) meaning it's a "horrific" decision not just a 4-5 point discrepancy that most see as a "bad" decision. I didn't actually see the fight I referenced to start this discussion so I'm not sure how "bad" or "horrific" the decision was. |
