RE: Things not thread worthy
There are plenty of sanctioning body issues, but no one does it worse than the WBC. They are a criminal organization, which is saying something considering the feds crashed the IBF offices when Robert W. Lee was heading them up.
All of this Interim/Super/Diamond/Silver title nonsense started with the WBC in the late 90s, and you can track it back to ONE INSTANCE where they did it, literally, for money... and it has gone completely downhill, sideways, and out of control since then. Roy Jones vs. Mike McCallum. Jones wanted a light heavyweight title fight. WBC said they didn't have a light heavyweight world title available. He offered $250,000 for them to put a title on the line, they made it the "Interim World Title", Jones won in a landslide, it set up the Griffin fight for the true world title after that... and then all hell broke loose. It's sad when the little sanctioning bodies get it right and the "Big Four" mostly get it wrong. |
