RE: Things not thread worthy

Plus theres no-one for Ward where he is, GGG has people avoiding him at his own weight, who he would ideally like to clear out before moving up. Exactly my point. And those are the two Superfights that boxing needs in a big way, at the right time. An interesting part of that logic for me is that both fights will be taking place in one of the traditional eight weight classes. Let Ward/Kovalev happen at light heavyweight. Let GGG clean out 160, and then tell Canelo to come up and fight him with no contracted weights, no ridiculous stipulations, no games. You want to weigh 155? Go for it. The limit is 160. That's not good enough for you? Back to 154 you go. Golovkin is fighting all comers. If people don't want to fight him, that's on them. He has to beat the guys that will fight him, and he's beating some pretty good fighters in the process. Future Hall of Famers? Probably not. But not every one of the opponents for Hagler and Hopkins were of that caliber either. Give it time and he'll either be proven authentic or counterfeit as a major force and legitimate all-timer. The important thing is that the Golovkin Mystique is already gaining the traction and marketability of the Tyson Mystique, as Kellerman alluded to after the Wade fight, and that can be nothing but good as we move forward. |
