With Cotto and Canelo they were paper champs at best, guys that want the belt but not to be a champion. And I think it made more sense for Golovkin to move up than Ward. I don't think it's living a lie, the dude is trying to break America and knows the Latino fan base is important because he sure as hell aint gonna ever get the urban one. Smart marketing IMHO. As for the Ward fight, to be honest I've heard a bunch of stuff from both camps regarding who would or wouldn't make that fight. Who you believe I think comes down to your bias. As much as I've heard ward say they tried to make this fight I've also heard Tom Loeffler say they had ward in a room with HBO execs and wanted to make the fight and Ward declined at the time. I really couldn't say definitively who turned down the fight and who didn't and I'm surprised that you think you can. “Shakespeare? I ain’t never hoid of him. He’s not in no ratings. I suppose he’s one of them foreign heavyweights. They’re all lousy. Sure as hell I’ll moider dat bum.”—Tony Galento |
