RE: Things not thread worthy
(06-13-2017 02:47 AM)the ollie reed fan club Wrote: I've never seen this footage of Bruce Lee before sparring. He would've been the biggest superstar in MMA without a doubt. That video popped up on my youtube recommendations the other day (I've got a youtube app on my smart TV), and I'm split on it. On one hand, this was the 60's. It wasn't exactly modern MMA. So that has to be taken into account. On the other hand, if we really want to talk about how he'd do in MMA, well, there's some stuff there he'd have to changed. Bruce knew traditional Chinese martial arts were shit, which was why he developed Jeet Kune Do. Even still, he's got some bad habits (in that video at least) that he'd have to fix. He's still dropping his lead hand way too low, which is a nasty habit from Wing Chun that consistently gets them KO'd in real fights. He's got that overly-wide stance when he's set that would leave him open to getting taken down by wrestlers, or getting cut down with leg kicks. The last issues is absolutely no striking combinations at all. Just single strikes at a time. Now all that was sparring, so I don't know what Bruce was really like in a fight, but going of that, I'd say technically he'd need a lot of work to compete. But as was stated earlier, he certainly had all the physical tools to be something special. The problem with martial arts before modern MMA is that it was more art than martial. Now the art has been almost completely replaced by the martial aspect. It isn't beautiful, but it is effective. |
