The Klits would be hard to beat, but when I think of boxing families I think multi-generational is more interesting and credible because once a poor guy has made it, it's a lot harder to convince his rich boy son to get punched in the face for a living. JC Chavez jr. was an interesting guy because he had the greatest name in Mexican boxing and yet he still managed to be pretty damn tough despite his upbringing. I also think that the Garcia family is interesting even though nobody in it was an ATG because there's so much knowledge and depth to the family boxing connection. All that said I'd have to go with the Mayweather family. Floyd entered the family business understanding that the point was making the most money with the least risk - kind of like a professional criminal or a banker. Just a real professional money maker in the family business who happened to have ATG talent. And when his father went away, he had an uncle to fill in. In my mind, the most interesting people in boxing are the fathers who have an American dream to put their boxing gloves on their 7 year old so that they will be champion. That's a dynamic that always blows me away - and there's a lot of it in the sport. |
