Mentioned before i'm reading Four Kings, the story of the era of Leonard, Hagler, Hearns and Duran. As such, I decided that once each fight has passed in the book I will watch it on Youtube. Having only really ever seen bits and pieces of them, highlight reel stuff, watching Leonard v Duran I lastnight was a massive pleasure. A truly amazing display of willpower from both guys. Round 13 I think it was, was incredible. How the fuck they took what they gave eachother I have no idea. I also don't know how they didn't come to respect eachother after that. Duran comes across a bit of a dick in the book but I just can't dislike him in any way.
That said, I have had a vague dislike for Leonard over the years, mainly because of what he is like now but that is fading somewhat having spent some time actually learning about his career and personality as a fighter. Alwys just found him a smug/insincere prick in his retirement |
