RE: Things not thread worthy

I think it provides a really good context of scale to the book, which is a bit of a record of events. Watching a documentary where everyone from SRL to Arum and King, Tyson and Lewis right up to fucking Noriega gushing about how huge, and how important Duran was, really provides a backdrop of what he achieved. What it really rammed home for me though is how the fuck did he, when he was so big, so rich, achieved so much... keep going back to the well to reach those levels. The weight loss he had to do, the devastating losses, the emotional carnage of No Mas and the fans turning on him as they did. In the film he is watching that moment and his lip is quivering, he loses his composure. Its obvious that moment haunts him to this day and yet he achieved enough even after it for a borderline ATG career. There are some very knowledgeable folks have him potentially in their top 3 of all time. Most have him in their top 10. it IS an ATG career. “Shakespeare? I ain’t never hoid of him. He’s not in no ratings. I suppose he’s one of them foreign heavyweights. They’re all lousy. Sure as hell I’ll moider dat bum.”—Tony Galento |
