RE: Things not thread worthy
Hey Black and Lloyd, I just heard an expression I hadn't heard in decades: "don't welch on a bet"
When I was a kid, getting "Japped" and "Jewed" were common expressions that are obviously unacceptable today. I'm not sure there's enough people in America who could even tell you what Welsh people are for that expression to have died for racial reasons. Another expression in America that's gone is: "get your cotton-pickin' hands off me." That expression was so commonplace that I don't think anyone ever equated it with black hands until they did. Do Brits in general feel that "welching" on a bet is an antiquated expression that would be totally racist and unacceptable in public? Or is it more of a situation where everyone just understands that the Welsh are simply untrustworthy with money? |
