A great champ that was on the short end of the stick with boxing politics. A solid champion who could have beatin many around him had he has the chances!

Being a boxing fan living in the same town as Winky Wright, I can't go out to a fight event without bumping into him.

He's a cool dude, and he was a great fighter. No matter how much his turtle shell defense sucked the life out of offense minded opposition, he was a master at his craft. To this day, he is the greatest fighter from the Tampa Bay area.

A very good fighter who was severely avoided, and it's good he retired now as I believe his last fight against Quillin was a very honourable performance, all things considering. He was 40 years old, coming off a 3-4 year lay off and made him work. He gave a pretty good account of himself.
It's nice to see fighters go out like this, other than the RJJ route.

Somewhere Lefthook is celebrating.

All heart. That's what most little guys are.
But that counts for a lot. In the gym or
the ring all you gotta do is get up
one more time than the other guy thinks you can.

Good riddance. I never liked Winky. I hated everything about him. Talked like a gangster, fought like a banker. That's how I always described him. He was talking tough and fighting like a puss long before Mayweather ever did.

Seeing him come to the ring in a suit late in his career just solidified every opinion I ever had of him. He was well-versed in his craft, but everything else about him just pissed me off.
