Hershman to HBO...what does it mean?
I dunno about the tournament being a bad thing. We take away the superficial title of "tournament winner" and we've had 3 years of the top 168lbers fighting each other. How often do we have the best clashing at the top in other weight classes?
I mean there are downsides to the structure, i.e. injuries, replacements, fighters being left out etc., but I say that we've gotten some pretty quality fights, regardless if there is a tournament championship at stake. They've also seemingly "fixed" the problem with the bantamweight tournament, being shorter with fewer stages. All heart. That's what most little guys are. But that counts for a lot. In the gym or the ring all you gotta do is get up one more time than the other guy thinks you can. - Gabrielle Calvocoressi http://www.wanderingpugilist.com |
