Technically, I'd put a ton of guys above "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. (Including "Stunning" Steve Austin, who is the same Steve Austin, but younger, with blonde hair, and a wider repertoire of moves. By the time Steve Austin became "Stone Cold", he'd already sustained several sever injuries and was on his way to several more, each one limiting him more and more.)

Wrestlers who undoubtedly had better in-ring skills are Ric Flair, Sting, Bret Hart, and Shawn Michaels.

Now if you mean Austin is the GOAT in terms of the ability to entertain and work the mic, then yeah, Austin has few peers. I actually think Austin was better on the mic than The Rock, who had the same shtick over and over. Austin evolved from 3:16 to flipping birds, drinking beer, beating up the boss and Jim Ross, "Because Stone Cold said so", and finally to my favorite "What?" catchphrase, which had to be the most organically hilarious phrase ever uttered in wrestling history.


I really miss Goldberg though. When he blew up, he blew the fuck up. He was the closest professional wrestling ever came to a Mike Tyson-esque type of character. He would come in, lay dudes out with the spear, jackhammer them, and then go. Nothing in between.

Fans usually chant "boring!" when a match sucks. When Goldberg was in his heyday, they'd just chant his name instead, as he was the absolute antithesis of boring.

WCW handled Goldberg's career really masterfully as well (contrary to how they usually mangled careers instead). You never knew when he was gonna show up. He might do the first match of the night, or he might show up in the second hour; you never really knew. You had to stay tuned.

Even if he had wrestled earlier that night, you never knew when he was going to come in and spear the shit out of the two guys in the ring who were putting on a shit-ass match.

Two guys hamming it up, and boom!Goldberg's music came on out of the blue, and he laid dudes out in less than a minute, getting the biggest pop of the night in the process.

Good times. Wrestling fucking sucks now.
