Saw an interview with Hart the other day where he graciously acknowledged that Sting was using the Scorpion Deathlock long before Hart adopted it as his own submission hold.

I don't reckon you got much early WCW down in Australia, though.


The thing I like about Hart is the way he delivered every move with power and authority. He really put himself into his punches. His European uppercuts were beautiful. His slams were fast, and really had snap. He really was just a beautiful technician.


Yeah, that was a good match. I watched it the other day, so it's still pretty fresh in my mind.

I noticed you didn't list Shawn Michaels as one of your favorites. What was it about Michaels that you didn't like? He wasn't as technical as Bret, but he was no less of a performer. Michaels really was one of the greatest to ever do it. By far. To me, him and Hart really reign supreme at the top as far as complete wrestlers go.

By the way, you really need to try WWE network's one month free trial. It's amazing. They have these Seth Green-style animated shorts called "Story Time" with WWE legends narrating hilarious behind the scenes stories from the old days. I'll mention one or two of them in my next post, but they are gut-wrenchingly funny.

Yep, Sting did use the deathlock before Hart, but I actually think Hart used to perform it better. Looked like he got more purchase on the shartshooter and made it look more painful than when Sting did it.
You're right as well, as we didn't get much WCW in the late 80's to mid 90's. I pretty much watched all my wrestling on VHS, I would go to the video store and just hire anything and everything I could and keep up to date with the latest PPV's that way. But everything at the video store was WWF shops.

I actually do really like Shawn Michaels, and I didn't leave him out deliberately. But I go through different stages throughout my life so far and I always have different opinions of him.
One thing that never changes is that I think he has been one of the best entertainers we have seen and performers as well. I really loved watching him as well.

But I dislike him at times about the whole Hart feud and I think he was a bit of a douche. Bret Hart was professional enough to put Shawn Michael's over in a great match at Wrestlemania 12.

Shawn Michael's didn't like Bret and was a dickhead about the whole thing. Instead of returning the favour and dropping the title to Bret Hart at WM13. He started the whole sob story and we got the 'Shawn Michael's lost his smile'. Rather than dropping his title, he said he is really injured and may never wrestle again and needs to find his smile. He hands his title back rather than losing it to Bret. Only to come back later that year and is involved in the whole Montreal screwjob.

He pulled a similar stunt in 1995 when he handed his IC title to Shane Douglas rather than lost it due to another claim he can't defend due to injury.

He was a very selfish wrestler that acted like a douche at times (even with the whole Bret and Sunny affair) and didn't want to put wrestlers over when required.
