RE: Best Body Puncher?
Tarver broke Jones mentally. Jones could've won their rubber match, but he just sort of gave up in the latter stages of the fight. He's admitted as much, blaming his father or some stupid shit like that.

Please!!! You done said it your own damn self! Roy was BODY PUNCHER OF THE YEAR!!! You shoulda stopped that post right there!!! NEXT!!!

Seeing Jones like that is just absolutely amazing. What skill.

And that was Jones when he was mentally and physically done (he has declined even further since that fight).

Yeah, he said something like "I didn't want my dad to take the credit, if I had won", as I believe his dad went back into his corner for that fight.

Jones had the fight at the half way point and looked to be dominating Tarver up until that point. And for some reason, he just totally stopped everything that he was doing and just went on looking to last the distance.

Yeah, but you missed the part where he said "joke" being he only threw 1 shot to the body.

Agreed on all points above about Jones/Tarver III.

To me, that was Jones' saddest moment. Not him getting KO by Tarver II. Not him twitching at the hands of Johnson. Not him crying in Korea back in '88. Not even his way past prime KO losses to 2 lesser profile dudes a few years back.

The way Jones just "gave up" against Tarver III, a fight that he was winning and easily outclassing Tarver in every way when he chose to... avenging that KO loss would have been huge; he'd have been 2-1 over Tarver instead of 1-2 and could have chalked that 1 loss up to a fluke punch. Had Jones continued to fight Tarver the way he did in that clip above, he actually stands a good chance of even stopping Tarver from cumulative damage stemming from that body assault.

Such a shame.

No doubt! He was more than capable of stopping Tarver.

As for the dad excuse. .Jones clarified he never blamed his father for the loss but blamed himself instead. For whatever that's worth!

He could go to the body well. The point is that he didn't.

No one ever suggested Jones couldn't go to the body well in this thread, just that he didn't do it very often if you look at his entire career. People look at the highlight reel stuff including the Hill KO and think he was a body puncher destroyer when in fact he did very little work downstairs overall.

RE: Best Body Puncher?
Roy Jones Jr just fought in Russia...

However he managed to get a really great looking knockout in the 1st round. I wish he threw that shot more back in his day!
