Roberto Duran-Fernando Vargas
Who wins between these two on their best nights at 154? No doubt Duran is the more accomplished but despite being a very good fighter, junior middleweight and above wasn't Duran's most successful divisions either. While 154 was Vargas prime weight & at his best many thought was one hell of a fighter.
Does the fight look any different at Middleweight where both were further removed from their best days? At middle I feel it favours Duran as he was still able to hang with the best in Hagler, while Vargas was no longer the beast he was when he was undefeated at Junior Middle. At 154 the fight is more competitive. Can Duran do what Trinidad did to Vargas? Or does he have a harder time landing those same shots and having the same impact? At the end of the day, Duran did not pack the same dynamite that Tito had, nor did he have the height or reach. I'm edging Vargas in an a firey brawl! |
