End of an Era.
I just happened to tune into Showtime Championship Boxing when I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw Guerrero Vs Berto II listed as an opening fight......
Then they mentioned this is going to be the last Showtime a boxing broadcast ever. I'm actually surprised it went so much longer past HBO. The game has changed so much ....and not for the better in my opinion. But that's a whole other thread. Hate to see another piece of the old ways go away.....but it was inevitable. |

RE: End of an Era.
I had to do a doubletake on the channel info verify the air date when I saw it was Guerrero and Berto...even when I realized how out of shape they both looked. Jim Gray sucks. Bye, SHO

RE: End of an Era.
Guerrero vs Berto 2 is almost funny.
We were all lucky to live through the Lampley-Merchant HBO era of boxing. Hopefully the Amazon-PBC deal gives the sport some new juice. Maybe PBC will feel the need to make some good fights early to establish the channel. |

RE: End of an Era.
I too had to do a doubletake when I read Guerrero vs Berto 2 was happening. What an odd choice of fight to close out on. I guess HBO went out on a weird note too.
All heart. That's what most little guys are. But that counts for a lot. In the gym or the ring all you gotta do is get up one more time than the other guy thinks you can. - Gabrielle Calvocoressi http://www.wanderingpugilist.com |

RE: End of an Era.
Seeing these companies give up on boxing is like watching my favourite drinking bar from back in my uni days get demolished and turned into a carpark.
Yes the fights will still live on on the internet but it just isn't the same. “Shakespeare? I ain’t never hoid of him. He’s not in no ratings. I suppose he’s one of them foreign heavyweights. They’re all lousy. Sure as hell I’ll moider dat bum.”—Tony Galento |

I miss the feeling of anticipation this theme song used to bring. All heart. That's what most little guys are. But that counts for a lot. In the gym or the ring all you gotta do is get up one more time than the other guy thinks you can. - Gabrielle Calvocoressi http://www.wanderingpugilist.com |
