I like the inference. We are in Syria bombing IS but we will leave the regime alone to have its war. However, do not forget that if you overstep, we can reach in to that shit at a moments notice and fuck you up.

I'm torn too, in as much as I'm not sure Assad was responsible for the Sarin attack. The evidence is flimsy at best. I just don't see what Assad has to gain gassing kids while the whole world is watching.

On the flip side I think this sends a strong message to the world regarding Trump's presidency. For one I think this kills stone dead the ludicrous proposition that Trump is some type of Putin puppet and like Lloyd said this sends the message to all the despots and dictators in the world that unlike the previous idiot, Trump is not a president you want to play chicken with. They set him a test and he had zero problem pulling the trigger. Bullies can not be negotiated with, they need to be confronted and overwhelmed. I actually think this deescalates tension in as much as the Putin's of the world are less likely to challenge Trump now. Gangster recognizes gangster.

I don't think that the evidence is flimsy. Assad's troops are stretched thin throughout the conflict, as are the Iranians that are over there assisting him. Chemical weapons help alleviate that. He and Putin were testing Trump as well. They wanted to see what Trump would do and what his capabilities are, given all of the other distractions that seem to be going on right now. This strike almost certainly pulls further chemical weapons usage off of the table for Assad. The next response will not be the destruction of one airfield.

By the way, can anyone beat Nigel Farage for utter disgustingness in the aftermath of this incident with his "For all Assads faults at least he is secular".

Chemical attacks are ok if they are not in the name of Islam.... What a piece of shit that man is. Probably loathe him more than Trump tbh.

I can't speak as to farage's recent comments as I haven't seen them but generally I like what he stands for and how he conducts himself, however I add the caveat that I am a Conservative and Nigel tends to play well with Conservatives and not so much with Liberals. You've got to love his forays into the European Union and the way he stuffs those bureaucrats at every opportunity.

This is what I have my fears around too, I wonder who is in Trump's ear regarding foreign policy. I think the nub of why he did it my reside in this passage:

Quote:The source added that Trump saw Thursday night’s missile assault as a way to change the conversation in Washington, where his administration has been under fierce attack from Democrats claiming that his election resulted from a Russian covert operation.

If changing the narrative was Trump’s goal, it achieved some initial success with several of Trump’s fiercest neocon critics, such as neocon Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, praising the missile strike, as did Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
