RE: Saul Alvarez vs Austin Trout - The Future of Boxing Starts Now!
Well what to say.

Canelo is a 22 year old kid with no amateur experience who is learning on the job.

He can also sell almost 40,000 tickets for his fights and is apparently finally learning English which only bodes well for the future.

After being fed some undersized guys to win some trinkets and raise his profile the fighter demanded that he be stepped up and face a legitimate threat. He fights hard and ekes out a close (fuck what the scorecards say) but clear win over his crafty opponent.

This is a win for the sport.

I thought Trout was classy in defeat as well. How refreshing to hear a fighter admit they just got beat by the better man. No excuses, no B.S. I will watch his next fight with a new found respect.

Open scoring kills the excitement of a big fight.

I gotta admit that I really dislike open scoring. It completely kills the drama of the fight. It would be like someone telling you how a movie ends every 20 minutes...

During a shoot out: "The goofy bad guy gets killed, the hero survives, but the really bad guy gets away."

During Star Wars: "Darth Vader is Luke's father."

The sixth sense: "Bruce Willis is already dead."

It just makes the whole reading of the cards at the end a pointless exercise. They should just end the fight and start the interviews...or STOP READING THE CARDS DURING THE FIGHT!!

TOTALLY!

I thought it was a good fight, that had the excitement completely taken away by the open scoring system!

That scoring system is only because of Texas though right?

I hope no fight ever goes back there again! That killed my buzz completely for a fight I had been waiting for with excitement!

Why does it not surprise me to her you say that? Even Trout thought he lost!

I thought it was 8-4 Trout as well, but there were some very, very close rounds and wouldnt begrudge anyone with a different score for some of those rounds. The knockdown was Trout's downfall, literally. That was a reason to take it from him. This was DLH/Ike Quartey to some degree.

Trout didnt think he lost. He said that because he's a class act.

SMARTY scored it 10-2 for Trout. That's after cricizing Trout and Alvarez. Lol.

I didn't do a round by round score, but thought Canelo edged about a 7-5 decision in rounds or 115-112 card wise.

I think what impressed me most tonight was Canelo's defense. His upper body and head movement was on point and he was able to make Trout miss WAY more than I thought he would just by moving his head. I felt it was a big improvement over his defense in his previous fights and that's a great sign for him going forward.
