RE: Bivol - Canelo
Normally I'm more in the "stay in one division and clean it out" camp, but I like Bivol turning the tables and following Canelo down to challenge for his belts. If Bivol can pull that off, he'll be one of my new favs.
All heart. That's what most little guys are. But that counts for a lot. In the gym or the ring all you gotta do is get up one more time than the other guy thinks you can. - Gabrielle Calvocoressi http://www.wanderingpugilist.com |

RE: Bivol - Canelo
In theory, Canelo only needs to win two more rounds to win the rematch. One thing that really cost him was him trying that rope-a-dope shit like Jon mentioned. Bivol scored whenever Canelo was against the ropes. If Canelo can stay off the ropes and fight like he did in round 9, maybe he can win a decision (a legit one at that).

RE: Bivol - Canelo
The problem is that Rope-a-Dope is basically Canelos way of admitting he's run out of gas or ideas.. we normally see him get to that point in the later rounds vs guys like GGG. Against Bivol he was doing it by the 3rd round.. that tells me Bivol made Canelo go through his plans A-Z early.

RE: Bivol - Canelo
4-0. All judges have Canelo the first 4 and the 9th.

Teddy Atlas gives a great breakdown as to why they did that.

RE: Bivol - Canelo
Bivol had to win 7 of the last 8 rounds to win the fight! And he did!
I think the first four rounds were somewhat close, but it was certainly generous for the judges to give Canelo all four. Bivol took over from there until Canelo had a great round 9. And then Bivol closed out strong. I still think Canelo can win if he stays off the ropes, but maybe it's not possible. It's hard to stay off the ropes when you're the smaller fighter. Perhaps Bivol is simply too big and strong for Canelo. |

RE: Bivol - Canelo
Canelo hasn't quite figured out that you box fighters, and you fight boxers... you could've boxed Bivol and stole a UD.
