One of my absolute favorites of all-time. A very sad but expected end for one of the best of the 90s.

RIP Johnny.

Johnny Tapia Found Dead in Albuquerque
Our media partners at KOB-TV in Albuquerque are reporting boxing great Johnny Tapia has been found dead in his Albuquerque home. He was 45-years-old.

Tapia is a New Mexico born and raised five-time world champion in the ring. He's had his troubles with the law through the years and has been open about his battles with drug addiction.

Here is a story published on Tapia in February 2010: Out of prison, Tapia finds comfort in return to ring

Despite his demons, there have been few if any celebrity sports or entertainment figures as beloved in the state quite like Tapia.

Check back later for more details as they become available on this story.

Fuck that sucks. I hate to say it but many knew that with his tragic past and mental issues he would eventually implode, especially without boxing, which seemed to be one of the few things in his life that could to take his mind off his demons.

RIP, he was a great fighter and a fun one to watch.

"Boxing analyst Larry Merchant says Tapia was 'a 5-1 underdog to survive his own childhood.'"

RIP Johnny Tapia.

All heart. That's what most little guys are.
But that counts for a lot. In the gym or
the ring all you gotta do is get up
one more time than the other guy thinks you can.

Damn Johnny was one of my all time favorites the guy could do it all in the ring. But it seemed like the only time he was good was when he was fighting.

Horrible lose.

RIP to one of the best who's ever done it.
