RE: Vargas-Mayweather: Who wins?
Oh yeah, no doubt that Wright at 154 could "take it" far better than Mayweather ever would be able to at 154. Wright was strong and durable as hell at 154. Mayweather wouldn't be able to sustain that kind of damage. No way Mayweather would get caught in a give and take battle with a prime undefeated Vargas at 154; he'd use the ring and do what he does best and whether or not that would yield him a W against that version of Vargas is debatable.

Yeah I see it like that. The only way Vargas gets put on the back foot is by a monster punch.

This would be a hell of a tough fight for any version of Floyd.

RE: Vargas-Mayweather: Who wins?
If an unnatural, partially faded Cotto can give Mayweather a hell of a fight then a big natural 154 prime power puncher in Vargas would get the nod against an insecure tensed up Mayweather. Wouldn't put it past Vargas to do serious damage in the process to get a KD or a KO..

RE: Vargas-Mayweather: Who wins?
Cotto has pretty under rated speed. That speed troubled Mayweather and was able to match or even exceed Mosley which was surprising at the time. Vargas had some very good assets, but speed IMO wasn't one of them. Not that he was slow or anything, but he certainly wasn't as quick as Cotto. If you take Cotto's speed down a notch or two Mayweather beats him much more comfortably and Mosley clearly decisions him as well. Cotto also has a quick, strong jab that IMO is better than Vargas' was for the most part. The jab has always been an issue for Mayweather against the guys that were competitive against him, be it against Cotto, DLH, Maidana etc. Part of Vargas' game plan for this mythical match up would hopefully involve working a solid jab on his way in. Assuming this fight would have happened before any of those other opponents mentioned above for Mayweather, Vargas wouldn't have had the benefit of knowing how effective a good jab could be in setting up the heavy stuff on Mayweather.
