He beat Toney and holds a win over Jones.

That was a long time ago though. The Griffin that was around during Erdei's title reign was more on the level of Erdei's best opponents IMO.

Griffin was arguably ahead in that fight at the time of the DQ.

Arguable. I think most had Jones slightly ahead, and if they didn't after a 10-8 round in the 9th they certainly would. It looked to me though that Jones was on his way to a TKO had the DQ shots not happened.

More like 9-8 or 8-8. Jones would've lost a point or two for fouls. Most likely two points, making it an even round. Also, Jones landed an inadvertent (?) rabbit punch just before Griffin took the knee. It could technically have been a 9-7 round in Griffin's favor if the referee had called the rabbit punch a foul.

RE: Who is the man at Light Heavyweight?
Even if he lost a point or two for fouls, he had a good chance of stopping Griffin in that round. Or, at the very least he likely would have at least put him down again.

The momentum was definitely in Jones' favor; he had won probably 4 of the last 5 rounds from what I remember.

Based on the momentum of the fight and Jones' ability to hurt Griffin in the 9th, I can assume that going into the championship rounds that Jones would have either stopped Griffin, put him down again, or won the rounds and any form of those outcomes equates to a comfortable Jones win in the end.

I don't think Michalczewski was the true champion, though, since he didnt fully unify.

Also, Jones' linear run went on to Tarver, not Calzaghe.

ha ha, I sense this is all a wind up.

This reminds me of the Ring's advanced degrees of separation.

Who beat who beat who beat who beat who.

Anyway, Ward isn't "the man" at 175.

You cant be the man at a Weight you havent fought at. You can be more than capable of handily smoking everyone at the weight above you, but you are not the man until you prove it.
