(03-16-2015 03:09 PM)Mean Mister Mustard Wrote: Anyway when Pascal started to rally I saw the same look that you did in Kovalev. He seemed a little lost and his technique started to go to shit a bit as he backed off. Ultimately it didn't matter as his jab and power saw him through, but you have to wonder what would happen he ever fought someone who can handle his power and not fade like Pascal did. To find out I think that he would have to fight a GGG or prime Froch type of guy and how many of those are there at 175? Exactly, those are the guys that will trouble Kovalev. A guy who can pressure him and not give him big breathers. Make him fight on the inside. The trouble is, most will have to be able to take a big punch, or like Ward, be able to get inside without copping too much punishment on the way in. Guys like Froch, Ward and even Beterbiev who would put him under serious pressure early, are fights that could spell trouble for him. If you sit on the outside and let Kovalev do his thing, you are in big trouble. But he is very very weak on the inside and he doesn't exactly have Guillermo Rigondeaux type footwork that can keep him on the outside all night. Of all of them, I think Andre Ward would really be his kryptonite if he can avoid taking a big punch on the way in. Ward suffocates distance so well and hits cleanly on the inside. I could even see him stopping Kovalev. But that would take Ward growing some nuts first and stepping up to the plate. |

RE: Kovalev vs Pascal
I don't think Froch would do too good against Kovalev, he'd get crushed

RE: Kovalev vs Pascal
I have no desire to see GGG over and above 160. He is a middleweight. Everything that makes him a top drawer middleweight...his power, his strength, his resilience...would begin to be compromised the further up he moves.
He may well beat Froch and may even give an inactive Ward a scare, but I have no wish to see a guy who looks such a perfect fighting machine begin to detract from himself just because there or may not be a guy at 168 who may or not fight him. Black |
